All classes are geared to increasing your dog’s understanding of skills in a motivational manner. Class size is limited for optimal learning. There will always be a demo dog to show you how to get started, and we will always work on challenging you and your dog. Currently offering Basic Obedience, Intermediate Obedience, and AKC Canine Good Citizen. (Tonganoxie location is only Basic Obedience right now)
For all classes, dogs need to be current on all vaccinations including Bordetella, not dog or people aggressive, and handled by someone at least 12 years of age or older.
Basic Obedience Your dog needs to be 4 months of age or older. The class meets for 7 weeks, week 1 without your dog. Class length is 1 hour. Some areas covered include: sit, down, stay, come, heeling, as well as working with distractions, socialization, plus problem-solving. Class will be taught on-leash.
Class Date, Time, & Location Leavenworth, Riverfront Community Center: $70 Saturday mornings: Time: 10:00 am-11:00 am 1. Jan. 9th-Feb. 20th 2. March 6th-April 24th (no class March 27th) These classes are indoors in a racquetball court. To register, you must contact and sign up with The Leavenworth Parks and Rec., 913-651-2132.
Tonganoxie, Leavenworth County Fairgrounds: $75 Spring/Summer 2010: Time: 6:30-7:30 pm 1. TBD Outside, but under cover in the ‘show barn’ To register, call 913-845-3502. You will need to sign up with Tonganoxie Park and Rec.
Lawrence, Clinton Parkway Animal Hospital: $75 Wednesday evenings: Time: 6:45-7:45 & 8:00-9:00 1. Jan. 6th-Feb. 17th 2. March 3rd-April 14th These classes meet outdoors, weather permitting, in a fully fenced yard. During the winter, classes will be indoors. Intermediate Obedience/Canine Good Citizen Pre-Req: Must have taken Basic Obedience class and/or have a good controlled walk and reliable knowledge of the skills sit, down, come, and stay. This class meets for 7 weeks, week 1 without your dog. It is 1 hour long. The class will be an advancing of skills learned in the basic obedience class as well as training for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. There will be lots of increase distractions and difficulty as well as problem solving. Class is indoor/outdoor. The CGC test will be taken the last week of classes. NOT ALL DOGS WILL PASS THE TEST on their first try.
