My name is Kim Downing, and I am the sole trainer for Your Best Dog. I am a member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers and The German Shepherd Dog Club of America. I am also a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. I have been offering training classes to the public since Spring 2005.
My family has always been very involved in the showing of German Shepherd Dogs throughout my life, and I have always trained dogs. I started training dogs as a child and have continued training my own dogs for enjoyment.
In addition to showing and training, I spent time as an evaluator for an independent vendor with US Customs. I regularly searched local shelters for dogs with the potential for a working career.
I have also worked as a service dog trainer for the non-profit group Paws for Freedom, an organization dedicated to the training and placement of service dogs for individuals in wheelchairs.
It is my love of dogs that has brought me to offer training to others. I want to encourage people to train their dogs and learn how to communicate with them. Unfortunately, too many dogs end up homeless and in shelters due to lack of training and correctable behavioral problems (like my own dog Mickey shown above). And, it is so simple and fun to work with your dog!
